The purpose of this page on Enterprise Decision Management (EDM) is to give a brief overview of EDM from a business director perspective.
EDM is about automating the operational business decisions that create value and makes them available via a set of decision services. Decision services are created using business rules and are deployed using Business Rules Engines.
By externalising the business rules from application code a business gains considerable agility by being able to quickly change and deploy business rules without having to perform costly and slow application code maintenance.
The real sweet spot about decision services is that they can be combined with other technologies to provide additional synergistic uplift in business agility and profitability. These additional technologies include, Complex Event Processing, Predictive Analytics, Constraint Optimisation and SOA.

Also Business Process Mangement (BPM) tools can be used to inject decision services combined with other technologies (see above) into business processes to bring game changing capabilities into your business processes and thereby potentially give your business competative advantages.
