Letter from Suleiman Shehu
Company directors, in today’s economic climate, are under increased pressure to cut costs and increase profitable revenues.
Company directors and managers face ever changing customer demands, policies and governance, mergers and acquisitions, changes in government legislation, and other economic pressures that requires that companies to become more agile if they to meet these demands and survive.
At the same time managers are bombarded by IT vendors who have in their toolboxes a number of IT technologies that they claim can help a business to become more agile, increase revenues, reduce costs and mitigate business risks.
These IT technologies have names such:
- Business Process Management System(BPMS)
- Business Rules Management System (BRMS)
- Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
- Complex Event Processing (CEP)
- Predictive Analytics
- Constraint Optimisation
- Cloud Computing
This blog will examine the business value proposition offered by each of the above technologies (including their meaning) and show how a business can use these technologies as “Levers of business agility” to help achieve its corporate goals.
This blog is designed for the company director who wants to get a quick handle on key IT technologies so that he can apply his judgement to determine if they have any use within his company. Whilst this blog is designed to the non-IT person, those with IT expertise should still find it useful and links to other more technical information will be provided from time to time.
A brief overview of each of these agile technologies can be found within “Pages” entries in this blog. Individual blog postings will provide detailed advice on how these agile technologies can be integrated and used within your business to achieve profitable business outcomes.
